Annie Ruth's Bio
Annie Ruth is a dynamic sister who utilizes her positive voice to inspire audiences nationally. She is an award-winning poet, author, and performing artist who exhorts people from all walks of life to embrace the power of a positive self-image and walk in their unique gifting. Annie Ruth describes her work as a reflection of her positive spirit. She has been married for 25 years and she and her husband have two beautiful children.
Annie Ruth earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from National University in San Diego, California and is a trailblazer who has received critical acclaim for her work as an artist and poet. She is the author and illustrator of over 15 books, articles and inspirational commentaries for both children and adults.
Annie Ruth is active within the community, leading causes that impact women, children, the arts, and literacy. She has a passion for empowering youth and has consistently produced arts, literacy and education projects that benefit the community at large. Her work has impacted countless people across the country. She has presented workshops and performed in national forums such as Speaking of Women's Health®, Universal Sisters® the National Council of Negro Women’s Black Family Reunion Celebrations®, African American Women on Tour® and numerous other civic and community venues, addressing topics relevant to positive self-esteem and creativity.
A few of her awards include a 2006 Girl Scout’s Women of Distinction Award® , 2005 YWCA Career Woman of Achievement, an Ohio Senate Commendation in 2004 for her community service and artistic accomplishments, the 2003 Taft Museum of Art Ducanson Artist in Residence, the 2000 Leading Woman award for Arts & Entertainment, and 1999 Enquirer Woman of the Year.
This year she was featured in Tyra Banks’s Black History vignette, as a woman making history. The vignette aired nationally on the Fox and Oxygen networks throughout the month of February.
